She returns his love, but a failure to admit wrong doing, a reluctance to take responsibility for consequences,and the denial of a need to ask for forgiveness, threatens to separate them,inevitably leading to betrayal and heartbreak. About the Author
EveTetaz's career spans several decades that included teaching in France, Iran, Thailand, and Ghana where she and her French-born husband, René, lived until his retirement from the State Department in 1974. The couple
settled in Paris and remained in France until illness necessitated their return to Washington. She resumed teaching in the DC Public School System until her husband's death. Ms. Tetaz lives in Washington, and is active in the Eighth Day Faith Community. According to Wikipedia,she is "...an outspoken adovocate for peace and justice."

Eve Tetaz's legendary bravery as an activist is matched by her courage and tenacity as a writer bent on stripping away the surfaces and discovering the truths of the human heart. This is indeed a tender, engaging, and uncommon tale.
You will be deeply engrossed in this tale that covers over a century in the loves and lives of an American school teacher and a French diplomat. But it is much more than a love story. It is a story about how these two, in spite of the cultural differences, survive and thrive together. Patricia becomes deeply involved in the peace and justice issues of the times. This is a tale of love, forgiveness, reconciliation and hope, told with understanding and compassion.
Eve Tetaz, an author of substantial gifts, has written an uncommonly engrossing love story about two people who discover each other in the course of discovering themselves. Their star-crossed adventures in the real world of 20th Century America make for an engaging, charming, insightful page-turner that is realistic yet hopeful.
This moving and well written story recounts how two lovers face heartbreak and betrayal in an attempt to reconcile differences that threaten to separate them. After having experienced several disastrous affairs, Patricia thinks she has found happiness with Jacques, only to discover barriers that force her to refuse further contact with him. Through the intervention of others, she learns that she is not the center of the universe, that there is danger in seeing herself as a potential victim, and that even the most wounded have the potential to become healers. Her increased ability to reach out to others, leads to her engaging in civil resistance which often ends in her spending time in jail. Jacques must learn that a refusal to make a decision is in itself a decision, and the failure to accept responsibility for his actions will result in a life filled with loneliness and despair. It is only when he accepts the need to forgive and learns how to ask for forgiveness does Jacques understand how to meet Patricia's needs. "An Uncommon Tale" is a story of how the power of redemptive love is available to everyone. Eve Tetaz is a great writer with an interesting history of civil disobedience against war and torture. I highly recommend this.
A lovely memoir from a world traveler and peace and social justice activist. This was a great story with insights for experiencing some of the great cities of the world and a courageous commitment to non-violent protest.
