The Sentinel The Collected Stories of Arthur C Clarke Book 2 eBook Arthur C Clarke

Originally published in 1983, this collection represents some of the greatest short fiction from one of the genre's most renowned authors. These collected works were written throughout Clarke's career, from 1946 to 1981-originally appearing in science fiction magazines such as Thrilling Wonder Stories, Famous Fantastic Mysteries, and OMNI.
Between these pages you'll find some of Clarke's most groundbreaking early stories-many of which influenced later classic novel-length work. The title story, "The Sentinel," formed the foundation for what would later become the Space Odyssey series-perhaps Clarke's most famous work. You'll also find "Guardian Angel," a rarely reproduced story that was the inspiration for Childhood's End.
The Sentinel The Collected Stories of Arthur C Clarke Book 2 eBook Arthur C Clarke
Clarke's stories are really for those interested in hard science fiction, as opposed to say Kurt Vonnegut whose stories made use of fanciful elements but very little hard science. Of note here is the story that would eventually become 2001: A Space Odyssey. This story is worth the price of admission alone. The volume also features an interesting introduction to describes some of Clarke's early struggles in publishing. Definitely worth it for those who want to give Clarke a try before reading other works, or those who are rounding out their reading of his work. I strongly recommend Childhood's End as an engaging example of his work.

The Sentinel The Collected Stories of Arthur C Clarke Book 2 eBook Arthur C Clarke Reviews
This man Clarke brought me, along with Azimov, through my formative years and saved my mental life to a degree I still don't appreciate fully! Absolutely wonderful read!
A most enjoyable and riveting read from start to finish. Arthur C Clarke is a master of the short story as much as he is of the novel. Now for his next collection ...
Another good collection of Arthur C. Clarke stories. A number of tables from The White Hart are included in this volume.
Seminal short story that later became the basis for 2001 A Space Odyssey.
Fan of Clarke's science fiction. Grounded in hard science the tales still hold up even years after the stories were written. Love having them on my kindle where I can browse and find a story I loved in my youth.
This compendium of early Clarke stories is good, but obviously not on par with his later works. Some of the stories really seemed pointless, without any sort of conflict whatsoever. Others were quite good and had surprising twist endings. All in all, worth a look but don't expect a lot.
Short stories were Clarke's best work. Earthlight stands out as an amazing story of a Moon war, but it is Sentinel that inspired 2001, the classic story and of course, timeless movie.
